The Graduate Institute of Clinical Medical Sciences of Chang Gung University (CGU) was established in 1990 within the College of Medicine and was approved by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. The Institute opened doors to the first group of postgraduate students in 1991. Professor Hsueh-Hsien Chang was the founding director of the institute, and he laid a good foundation for the institute. In order to provide research training and opportunities of in-service further educational training for more clinicians who are interested in medical research, his successor, Professor Ying-Hsiong Lee, who was also the former dean of the Medical College, enrolled additional graduate students in the master's program. In addition, he also provideed further education credit courses in both the Kaohsiung course division and the Linkou headquarters. He also initiated the interaction between the hospitals, universities and the Clinical Research Institute, expanded research and teaching of the genomics and proteomics fields, and leading the institute to move towards a more innovative and brighter future. It is worth mentioning that, in order to promote in-service training for doctors of the Kaohsiung branch, courses were established at the Kaohsiung division in 1998. In the same year, the Linkou headquarters was moved to the 12th floor of the Research Building, Linkou Chang Gung Medical Center, so that teachers of this institute can have the opportunities to interact and cooperate more closely with the doctors. Since August, 2001, Professor Hsin-Shih Wang has served as the director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Linkou Chang Gung Medical Center. In order to encourage in-service doctors at the Chia-Yi Branch of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to receive further development and training, Chia-Yi division course was established in 2005. In the same year further education credit courses such as Molecular Biology and Cell Biology were offered in Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. In 2006, the institute was moved back to the 4th floor of the First Medical Building of Chang Gung University.
