Characteristic
I. Our graduate students come from a great variety of clinical backgrounds, including Chinese and western physicians, registered nurses and clinical respiratory care therapists. Our research goal is to solve clinical problems as well as to explore disease mechanism. Students are encouraged to investigate issues which need to be tackled but remain unsolved. Students will be supervised by carefully selected faculties. Under the guidance of their advisors, students are expected to broaden their scope and background knowledge. Accordingly, the goal of multi-professional training is achieved.
II. Through long-term cooperation with clinical personnel, our faculty has a good understanding of issues concerned with clinical practice. To further enhance the ability of advising clinical personnel, our faculty members continue to pursue further training in research methods on related clinical topics.
III. Diversified courses offered by our faculty cover from basic medicine to clinical medicine, providing abundant integrated classes with basic and clinical medicine and state-of-the-art biotechnology classes.
IV. To offer more opportunities and space to facilitate learning and research, we liaise with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou, Kaoshiung and Chia-Yi, which provide full support on medical research and development. The graduate institute also offers similar classes and provides all equipment and laboratories for doctors to be able to engaged in all kinds of basic and clinical medical research.
V. Those who enrol in our graduate institute are qualified to apply for Chang Gung Medical Research Program (CMRP), which offers maximum research fund amounting up to forty thousands dollars to provide students with a sufficient budget for research. In addition, students are also able to get valuable experience in research grant proposal writing through the CMRP application. Those who are not employed by Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and hold positions such as department director, department faculty and thesis advisor have the responsibility of assisting graduate students in applying for research grants to the student’s serving hospital, National Science Council, National Health Research Institutes, or Department of Health with at least one grant application accepted by the above-mentioned organizations.
VI. Overseas studies evaluated and sponsored by the Medical Educational Committee is highly recommended to our graduate students during their school years. Such an activity is a valuable experience for our students to access to broader learning opportunities and to acquire new research methods. Hopefully, an international cooperation platform will thus be established.
VII. The educational objectives of the master’s program are as follows: (1) To prepare clinical research personnel for advanced research, and to help clinicians develop clinical research ability; (2) To guide students through strict review process, as well as to select those with strong research interest and excellent academic performance to advance into the Ph.D. program. Four doctoral places are reserved for master’s students annually.
